BIO

Binzamanna means ” big vineyard” in Sardinian dialect. Martis used to be a great place for vine growing, but after the70’s, when the Italian government paid the farmers to explain the vines, no wineries were left. Walter and Sara have a dream: to bring back vines where they belong.

So, in 1998 they started their personal journey, walking in a very small family vineyard, attaching different color strings to the old vines in order to select the old clones and nurse new old clone vines, to replant them. Today they have 4 hectares and they keep slowly enlarging their winery. Vermentino, Cannonau and Cagnulari are the indigenous grape varieties. While the first 2 varieties grow in all Sardinia, Cagnulari originally comes specifically from around Martis.

Interesting fact: there is the female Cagnulari, with thinner skin and more elegant structure and the male Cagnulari with thicker skin and more concentrate taste. Also, fun fact: everybody thinks that Cannonau was imported from Spain in the 14hundreds, but recent studies affirm that it is autochthonous from Sardinia and it is the most ancient grape in the all-Mediterranean area.
