BIO
Francesco is a chef, a wine maker and a DJ. In 2002 he bought Raina estate and that became home to his family and the place to express himself fully. This led him after a few years to approach biodynamic in both farming and vinification. Sometimes he still wears the chef hat to entertain visitors who want to get the full experience in the tasting room and organizes events where he has fun with his disk collection paired with wine. The respect and the support to the local community is a priority: he created good relationships with local farmers and the restaurants that use their products, creating a local circular economy.
He loves playing with the white grapes, making orange wines that are totally different from the Umbria old school. While with the reds, he does his best to bring alive the fruitiness, aging in oak barrels only when needed. Being an artist, many times has encountered the disapproval of the “Official Tasting” Commission. But this never stopped him from continuing on his personal journey.

Local varietal with nice natural structure. The 3 days skin contact maceration brings out an interesting character. An approachable orange wine.
The 7 days skin contact maceration brings out the natural tannins of the Trebbiano. An orange wine, pleasant and fresh like a white, with the structure of a red.
90% Sangiovese and 10%Montepulciano, fermented with indigenous yeast, aged in concrete for 18 months. Fruity, round and rustic. «Gobba» was the nickname of Raina’s previous owner, and it symbolizes the link to the winery origins.
70% Sangiovese, 15% Merlot, 15%Sagrantino. The town Montefalco gives the name to the denomination, because its character represents completely the local terroir.
Sagrantino is one of the top 5 grape varieties in Italy. Inky and with harsh tannins, it is usually a wine that drinks well after 15 years. Francesco’s choice of short maceration, followed by 2 years in a big barrel, delivers a wine with fruitiness on the palate, well balanced with the pleasant long tannins.
It has been named «number one» because it is the first Vermouth where the wine used is as precious as the herbs and spices. Made of 75% Sagrantino, 10% Trebbiano and 15% Sagrantino Passito (to cut down on the sugar), it has a really intriguing nose, excellent on the rocks or in the spritz.
